Rust HWID Ban Fix: Why New Accounts Get Banned and What Works
Rust uses Easy Anti-Cheat, and an EAC ban can cover your hardware as well as your Steam account. If you bought Rust on a fresh Steam account and it got banned soon after, without you doing anything wrong on it, you are most likely dealing with a HWID ban. The fix is to change the IDs EAC reads with a spoofer and remove Rust's leftover files with a cleaner before you log in again.
How Rust bans work
Rust is made by Facepunch Studios and protected by Easy Anti-Cheat. When EAC bans you for cheating, the ban lands on your Steam account as a game ban, which shows on your Steam profile. That part is an account ban: the account can no longer join EAC-protected Rust servers.
EAC can also record identifiers from your PC at the time of the ban. If a different Steam account later plays Rust from the same hardware, it can be linked back to the old ban. That is the hardware ban, and it is the one that wastes your money, because every new copy of Rust you buy can go the same way.
Individual community servers also run their own admin tools and ban lists. A ban from one server is not the same as an EAC ban, and only affects that server.
Signs you have a HWID ban
| What you see | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Only your main account is game-banned, a new account plays for weeks | Account ban |
| New account kicked with an EAC ban message within hours or days | HWID ban |
| Several fresh accounts banned one after another on the same PC | HWID ban |
| A new account works on a friend's PC but not yours | HWID ban |
| Banned from one server only, others work fine | Server ban by that server's admins |
The key test is the new account. If a clean Steam account with a fresh copy of Rust gets banned without ever cheating, the ban is following your hardware.
Why a new account alone doesn't help
People often assume a new Steam account is a fresh start. It is not, for two reasons.
Your hardware is the same. EAC reads identifiers such as drive serials, motherboard and BIOS values and network adapter addresses. Those don't change when you make a new account or reinstall Windows. Our guide on how to check your HWID shows exactly which IDs your PC reports.
Rust leaves traces. The game and EAC leave files, folders and registry entries on your PC. Even if you change your IDs, those leftovers can tie the new session to the old one. This is why a cleaner matters as much as the spoof itself.
Buying a new copy of Rust on a new account without dealing with both is how people end up losing the same money two or three times.
The fix: spoof and clean
A spoofer changes the hardware IDs your PC reports while it runs. Our Temp HWID Spoofer:
- spoofs and cleans in one click,
- includes a Rust cleaner (alongside cleaners for Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends and FiveM),
- supports Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, Ricochet and FiveGuard,
- has a built-in HWID checker so you can confirm the spoof worked,
- works on any motherboard, UEFI or Legacy BIOS,
- supports Windows 10 and 11, except Windows 11 24H2.
It is temporary: your real IDs return when you restart. If you are on Windows 11, check your version first. Our post on the spoofer and Windows 11 24H2 explains how.
To be clear about what we sell: Vivid Cheats does not sell a Rust cheat. The spoofer supports Rust and includes the Rust cleaner, so you can use it to get past a hardware ban.
Step by step
- Buy a spoofer key and unlock your setup guide with your email and order number. Your key is also saved on your orders page.
- Close Rust and Steam completely. Check the system tray and Task Manager.
- Run the spoofer and use the one-click spoof and the Rust cleaner.
- Open the HWID checker and confirm your IDs have changed.
- Use a new Steam account that has never been linked to your banned one, and buy Rust on it.
- Launch Rust and play.
- After every restart, spoof and clean again before opening Steam.
Mistakes that get people banned again
Logging in to the banned account
Opening Steam with the banned account, even once, on the spoofed PC can link everything back together. Keep the old account off this PC.
Forgetting to spoof after a restart
A temp spoofer resets on reboot. If Windows restarts for an update and you open Rust without spoofing, you are playing on your real hardware IDs. Make spoofing the first thing you do after every boot.
Skipping the cleaner
Changing IDs while Rust's old files are still on the drive leaves a trail. Always run the Rust cleaner as part of the spoof.
Linking the new account to the old one
Steam Family Sharing, trading items from the old account, adding the same friends in the same order, or using the same payment method can all connect accounts. Keep the new account separate.
Not reading the anti-cheat situation
Getting unbanned and then immediately getting caught again is the most common pattern. Read our guide to avoiding cheat bans and the anti-cheat guide to understand what got you flagged in the first place. Before you play anything with a cheat loaded, check the status page.
Is the ban permanent?
Treat it as permanent. EAC game bans on Rust are generally not lifted, and hardware bans follow the same logic. Plan on spoofing every session for as long as you play on that PC. If you are wondering whether a temp or permanent spoofer fits that better, read temp vs perm HWID spoofers.
Frequently asked questions
Does Rust use Easy Anti-Cheat?
Yes. Rust is protected by Easy Anti-Cheat, and the Temp HWID Spoofer lists EAC among its supported anti-cheats, with a dedicated Rust cleaner.
Will a new SSD fix a Rust HWID ban?
Usually not on its own. EAC reads several identifiers, not just your drive. A new drive changes one of them, while your motherboard, BIOS and network IDs stay the same.
Do I need a new Steam account?
Yes. The spoofer handles your hardware, but your banned Steam account stays banned. Use a new account that has no links to the old one.
Does Vivid Cheats sell a Rust cheat?
No. We sell the HWID spoofer, which supports Rust and includes a Rust cleaner. Our cheats cover Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Wardogs.
Do I need to spoof every time I play Rust?
Yes. The spoofer is temporary, so your real IDs come back after a restart. Spoof and clean before every session.
